Will Martinez be back to form in Holiday Bowl?

Fans with Husker football tickets to this week's Holiday Bowl are looking forward to seeing the Nebraska football team wrap up the season with a win over Washington.
Back in September, the Huskers took a trip to Seattle, Wash., and pounded the Huskies 56-21. That game was the coming-out party for freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez, who lit up the Washington defense with his running and passing talents. The Huskers used that win to catapult them to a 10-3 regular season and a Big 12 North Division title.
Martinez had an excellent season, although injuries slowed him down toward the end of the season. There is some question as to how effective he will be after injuring his ankle again in the Texas A&M game late in the season. If he is at 100 percent, it should make the Huskers a tough matchup for a Washington team that is looking to avenge that September blowout.
The Huskies were up and down for much of the season, but come into this game riding a three-game winning streak after closing out the regular season with wins over UCLA, California and Washington State to end the year with a 6-6 record.

Holiday Bowl preparations getting a little wet

Fans looking for Husker football tickets to the Holiday Bowl might want to bring along some hip waders to soggy San Diego to watch Nebraska take on Washington.

Southern California has been bombarded with rain in recent days. The city of San Diego usually receives about 11 inches of rain a year, but got half of that in a few days, which left more than two feet of standing water inside Qualcomm Stadium.

Fortunately, workers were able to pump more than a million gallons of water out of the stadium and get the field playable in time for another bowl game earlier in the week, and if the rain stays away from California during the next few days, the field should be in great condition when the Huskers and Huskies take the field for the Holiday Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 30.

The game will be a rematch of a September battle between the two teams in Seattle, Wash. Nebraska dominated Washington that day, coming away with a 56-21 triumph, but the second matchup should be a little more entertaining, as the Huskies come in playing a lot better and riding a three-game winning streak.

Nebraska is looking to win its second straight Holiday Bowl over a Pac 10 opponent. Last year, they shut out Arizona in the same stadium, and will be looking to win their second bowl game in five appearances in a California-based bowl game. They lost their first trip to the Holiday Bowl and are 0-2 in the Rose Bowl.

Huskers to take on Huskies in Holiday Bowl

The Husker football team was hoping to earn a BCS bid, but after their 23-20 loss to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Conference Championship, fans looking for Husker football tickets will have to settle for the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
The Huskers will be heading back to San Diego, Calif., for the second straight year to take part in the Holiday Bowl, set for Thursday, Dec. 30 at Qualcomm Stadium. They will face the Washington Huskies, who come into the game with a 6-6 record.
Last year, the Huskers shut out Arizona to win a bowl game in California for the first time in three tries (they lost to Arizona in the 1998 Holiday Bowl and fell to Stanford in the 1941 Rose Bowl).
Nebraska is coming off a 10-3 season that included a win over the same Washington team they will face in the Holiday Bowl. Earlier this year, the Huskers went to Seattle and jumped on the Huskies, blowing out the home team 56-21.
This is the first time Nebraska has made back-to-back appearances in the same bowl game since their run of Orange Bowl appearances in the 1990's as a member of the Big Eight Conference. They will be playing in a California bowl game for the fifth time, the third in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
