It was a great day to be a Husker Saturday, as the Husker football team put away Kansas State 17-3 to wrap up the Big 12 North Division title and a spot in the Big 12 Championship game next week in Dallas, Texas.
The Huskers did it with a defense that gave up just under 300 yards in total offense, but kept the visiting Wildcats from finding the end zone. Kansas State scored a field goal on its opening possession, but could get no closer than the Huskers' 5-yard-line before a fumble ended their last opportunity.
The Huskers have had their share of hiccups along the way, and they showed that late in the first half when a drive that could have given Nebraska a two-touchdown lead at the half came up empty. Coach Bo Pelini was not happy with that result, and could be seen expressing his frustration to quarterback Zac Lee.
But the Huskers responded in the second half, as Roy Helu scored on a short touchdown run to make it a two-possession game, and the rest of it was left to the defense, led by seniors Ndamukong Suh and Larry Asante, who both made great plays in their final home game at Memorial Stadium to lead the Huskers to their first division title since 2006.
The Huskers close out the regular season Friday with a road game at Colorado, taking on a Buffaloes team that has been a huge disappointment this season. Colorado was expected to be in the hunt for the division title this year, but have stumbled through a 3-8 season and will be looking to upset Nebraska's momentum before next week's conference championship game.
After that, Nebraska will take on Big 12 South Division champion Texas for the Big 12 Conference Championship on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas. You can get tickets for both the Colorado game and the Big 12 Championship game right now at Ticket Express -- where no Husker football game is ever sold out.
