The Husker football train back to national prominence was derailed by a dismal performance in a rare home loss to Iowa State.
Nebraska committed eight turnovers, four coming inside the Cyclones' 10-yard line, and lost to Iowa State in Lincoln for the first time since 1977. The Cyclones escaped Lincoln with a 9-7 win in front of more than 85,000 stunned fans at Memorial Stadium.
The Huskers' offense has been spinning its wheels of late. They have scored just two touchdowns in the last two games after ringing up four in one quarter at Missouri two weeks ago.
Still, with all that offensive ineptitude, the Husker defense played well enough to keep Nebraska in the game until the end. With all those gifts from the Husker offense, Iowa State could manage just a touchdown and a field goal.
Nebraska had one last chance to pull out the win, but Zac Lee's third interception with a little more than a minute to go sealed the deal for the Cyclones, who won for just the seventh time in more than 40 trips to Memorial Stadium.
Nebraska goes back on the road this Saturday for a Halloween matchup with Baylor. The Bears showed a lot of promise early in the season, but some key injuries have limited the Bears as they got into conference play.
