For the first time since 2003, the Husker football team will face an opponent on a Thursday night, as they will take on Missouri in the Big 12 opener for both teams Thursday, Oct. 8, at Columbia, Mo.
This marks the third time in this decade that Nebraska will have faced an opponent on a Thursday night. The last time Nebraska played on Thursday, they beat Southern Miss on the road, 38-14 on Sept. 25, 2003. The other Thursday night game this decade came in 2001, when the Huskers' matchup with Rice was moved back due to the 9/11 tragedy. The Huskers beat Rice in that Sept. 20, 2001 matchup, 48-3.
The Huskers have gotten through the non-conference portion of their schedule in pretty good shape, going 3-1 with wins over three Sun Belt opponents and a heartbreaking 16-15 loss at Virginia Tech.
The Huskers enter Big 12 play taking on the defending North Division champion Missouri Tigers, who are playing very well in spite of the fact the team lost a lot of talent from last year's team that finished as the conference runner-up to Oklahoma.
Missouri has played very well in the two previous meetings with Nebraska. Last year, the Tigers spoiled Nebraska's homecoming with a dominating 52-17 win. In Nebraska's last trip to Faurot Field, the Tigers dominated the Husker football team with a 41-6 triumph.
